(she/her)

Milwaukee-based illustrator Sid Ylagan is a textile designer by day, freelance illustrator by night, and a fine artist by weekends.

Ylagan works in a wide range of illustration styles, but primarily focuses on elevated portraiture in her personal work. Her stylistic approach ranges from simple and bold, to heavily rendered and painterly. Always bouncing between photoshop and traditional mediums, she can never stray from physical paint for too long. Her work is undeniably rooted in foundational drawing and painting skills, but pulls heavily from graphic and photographic inspiration.

Ylagan’s personal work often features figures that she’s most passionate about, whether that means pop culture icons or her chosen family. Some of her paintings capture a fleeting, quiet moment while others present figures on an idealistic pedestal.

Ylagan’s client work includes album art, musician branding, editorial illustration, poster design, surface design, and personal portrait commissions. Most recently she’s worked with Reverse, doux.mp3, Studybreaks Magazine, Daybreak Magazine, Colectivo Coffee Roasters, and Her Clothing Company. She has also exhibited at Var Gallery, After Gallery, and Jazz Gallery.

In her brief time since graduating from the Milwaukee Institute of Design in 2019, she’s been busy creating patterns and t-shirt graphics for multiple kids’ private label brands at Kohl’s Corporate. Ylagan has exercised her artistic and technical versatility by understanding and designing for many different brand aesthetics.

Her textile design skill-set includes illustration for graphic tees, graphic design and typography, photo-manipulation, creating original repeat patterns, designing plaids, manipulating dye effects, and preparing art for production.

Her children’s clothing brand experiences includes SO, Mudd, Sonoma, Jumping Beans, Urban Pipeline, and Disney Collections. She also has had the pleasure of working across other departments ranging from Urban Pipeline Mens’, SO Juniors, The Big One Disney Home, and Kohl’s Jammies for your Family.

As a recent artist in residence at Var West Gallery in Milwaukee, Ylagan is currently taking a step back from client work to focus on her figurative paintings, to maybe get a few murals under her belt, and to hopefully launch an exciting project in 2021.

Stay tuned.
